Yup, it's that time of the year again, you know, when it's barely begun and you have to start assessing your previous year and asking yourself if this time around the sun, you can do a little better.
I know I could.
2019 was rough, enough said. 2020... well it's got to be better, right?
Last year, I had some lofty goals, and I failed at most of them. This year, I'm keeping things a bit more reasonable, and I'm going to make sensible plans. You know... be an adult, basically.
Goal #1 - Get my house in order. I'm not above admitting I need help with this one. So I'm going to work with my therapist to set incremental goals for each month to help me along the way. Because right now the house is out of hand. It's more than simply cluttered, it's a mess. It's such a big problem that I get overwhelmed and I give up.
January's task - Clean and organize the kids' bedrooms, so they know what it should look like and can learn to take care of it themselves.
Goal #2 - Set some healthy habits. Every month, new habit. Something small that I can build on. By the end of the year, I want to get back into exercising regularly and eating better.
January's task - Sign up for Zumba Strong again and do yoga every day (YouTube may actually be useful!)
Goal #3 - Fall back in love with writing. I love it, I really do, but toward the end of 2019, I felt so burnt out and so full of self-doubt, nothing really felt right, or good. Everyone always says writing is hard, and it is. Once you start to understand the sheer mountain you have to climb to create anything good enough to publish.... it starts to feel impossible. You start to forget that when you first started out, all you felt was joy and excitement to find out what happens next with your characters. That's what I want back.
January's task - 30 minutes of writing every day.
That's it. Three goals for the year. Not goals that have to do with achieving things that are beyond my control, like getting a publishing contract for CODY, but goals that are simply things I want to be better about. Things I want to improve in my life.
On top of those, I generally want to read more, update my blog more (once a month, let's keep it real, I'm not a blogger) and spend more time with my kids. Here's hoping 2020 proves itself better than 2019!
