The Hawthorne Legacy (The Inheritance Games #2)The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

It was cute. Not amazing. The love story felt forced. There were far fewer games or puzzles in this book than there were in the previous installment, which was disappointing, because without the puzzles and with a cringe-y love story, there simply wasn't a lot to keep readers wanting more. The characters showed very little growth or depth and the prose was just okay.

Overall, an adequate follow-up to the Inheritance Games.

The Waiting Game

The manuscript is complete. The editor has been hired. Now all I have left are the days, hours, weeks until my turn comes along and I can send the novel off to be picked apart by a professional.

Waiting.

And after that... more waiting.

What does an author do in the meantime?

Write short stories.

I'm taking Ray Bradbury's advice, at least for the next couple of months. I plan on writing one short story per week until my editor gets back to me with notes on the novel. I hope to have a collection that I can start submitting to publications over the summer. (Everything happens over the summer for me; no one procrastinates better than a teacher.) I have already submitted two stories to A Flash of Words.

Another waiting game.

Wish me luck!
